International College for Chinese Language Studies, Liaoning University
Liaoning University is located in Shenyang, the central city of northeastern China. It’s a comprehensive university attached to Liaoning Province, and one of the “211 Project” universities. (The “211 Project” is a long-term program initiated by the Chinese Ministry of Education to modernize and improve 100 key universities across the country.) Every year, about 700 international students come from more than 50 different countries to study Chinese language and culture at Liaoning University.
The College of International Students, established in 1965, is a separate department within the university dealing exclusively with international students. In 2003, the University allocated funds to construct a modern building of 15,000 square meters for the college, with classrooms, dormitories, a canteen and entertainment rooms to provide a convenient atmosphere for studying and living.
On 29th April, 2007, Liaoning University changed the name of College of International Students to International College for Chinese Language Studies.
ⅠMajors
1 Chinese Language Four-year undergraduate course. Students who successfully pass the exam and complete the thesis will be granted a Diploma of Undergraduate and Bachelor’s degree in Arts.
2 Teaching Chinese as a Second Language The four-year undergraduate course is currently a special program for Chinese students. The students who successfully pass the exam and complete the thesis will be granted a Diploma of Undergraduate and Bachelor’s degree in Arts.
3 Chinese Linguistics and Graphemes Three-year postgraduate course. Students who successfully pass the exam and complete the thesis will be granted a Diploma of Postgraduate and Master’s Degree in Arts.
4 Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Three-year postgraduate course. Students who successfully pass the exam and complete the thesis will be granted a Diploma of Postgraduate and Master’s Degree in Arts.
5 MTCSOL (Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) Two-year postgraduate course for teaching Chinese to foreigners. Students who successfully pass the exam and complete the thesis will be granted a Diploma of Postgraduate and Master’s Degree.

ⅡChinese Training
1 Chinese Language Class
Chinese language classes are divided into three administrative levels in accordance with students’ proficiency of Chinese, namely: Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Classes. After completing the course, students qualify for a certificate in Chinese proficiency.
2 Vacation Class
Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Classes are offered over summer and winter vacation. Each class is set up with as few students as possible for the purpose of accelerating the students’ Chinese studies within a short term.
Ⅲ Types of Students
1 Chinese language student
Applicants should be between 18 and 65, and in healthy physical condition.
2 Visiting Student
Applicants should be below the age of 45 and possess academic credentials of university study for more than 2 years. Applicants should engage in study in their original major or a related major.
3 Undergraduate
Applicants should possess academic credentials equivalent to those of Chinese senior high school standards. Applicants should be below 30 and will take academic courses for undergraduates after passing the entrance examination. The program last for 4 years.
4 Master’s Degree Student
Applicants should possess academic credentials equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in China. Applicants should be below 40 and provide proof of academic credentials paper and at least two recommendation letters issued by associate professors or professors. After the entrance examination, the program lasts for 3 years.
5 Ph. D Student
Applicants should possess academic credentials that equate with a master’s degree in China. The applicants should be below 45 and provide proof of academic credentials paper and at least two recommendation letters issued by associate professors or above. After the entrance examination, the program lasts for 3 years.
Ⅳ Application Procedure
1 Fill out the “Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China” (download from our website http://www.studyinlnu.com/webs/lxsq.asp?id=478).
2 Provide academic credentials.
3 Provide score list.
4 Provide completed “Physical Examination Record For Foreigner”. (The physical exam could be taken in Shenyang.)
5 Pay for Application and Registration Fee: Chinese language student: 750 RMB; Degree courses student: 900 RMB.
6 Provide 7 passport quality photos with blue or white background (3 cm * 4 cm).
7 Provide the copy of passport (first page / photo page) and 3 blank visa pages.
